Final summer signing
Miroslav Klose completes Bayern switch
Three days before the senior squad officially reports back to the club ahead of the 2007-8 campaign, Bayern have concluded their busy summer spending spree with the signing of Germany striker Miroslav Klose from Bundesliga rivals Werder Bremen. The goal-getter completes an eight-strong roster of new arrivals also comprising Luca Toni, Franck Ribery, Zé Roberto, Jose Ernesto Sosa, Marcell Jansen, Jan Schlaudraff and Hamit Altintop.
The 29-year-old Klose is due in Munich on Thursday for a medical and will subsequently ink a four-year deal binding him to the Bavarians until 30 June 2011. The centre-forward, top scorer at last summer’s World Cup and German Player of the Year 2006, intends to be present on Friday at 10 am when the country’s most successful club commences pre-season training.
Prolific record for Werder“We’ve arrived at a fair solution for both sides,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented. The deal was struck in a “productive conversation” between Bayern hoard directors Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß, and Werder joint managing directors Klaus Allofs and Manfred Müller. Both parties agreed not to disclose the fee for the player capped 69 times by his country, who still had a year to run on his contract in Bremen.
Klose moved from Kaiserslautern to then double winners Bremen in the summer of 2004, going on to score an impressive 53 goals in 89 Bundesliga appearances for Werder. He finished on 13 goals last term, the second-best tally at the club behind Brazilian playmaker Diego.
