Matches added to busy pre-season schedule
Ottmar Hitzfeld's men are currently putting the memory of a disappointing 2006-7 behind them on a summer vacation lasting five weeks, at least for the players not called up on international duty. The new-look senior squad has been ordered to report back to the Säbener Strasse on 29 June before a programme of friendlies, a training camp in Donaueschingen and the DFL League Cup, in preparation for a new assault on silverware next term.
The club’s updated pre-season programme includes half-a-dozen newly-announced warm-up matches, including trips to Spanish top flight outfit RCD Mallorca, relegated Swiss side FC Schaffhausen, German second division club 1. FC Köln (designated as Lukas Podolski’s farewell match from Cologne), and former Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach, in a game which serves as the official send-off from the relegated club to new Bayern signing Marcell Jansen.
